What debts can I discharge through Chapter 7 bankruptcy?

When filing Chapter 7 bankruptcy, the primary objective is to get the majority of your debts discharged in order to allow you to start again with a clean slate. Only unsecured debts may discharged through Chapter 7 however, which means that any money that you owe on a car loan, mortgage, child payment, alimony, taxes, or otherwise secured debt will not be eligible for discharge.
