Can creditors garnish my wages?

Wage garnishments, or the automatic deductions of a portion of your paycheck in order to pay your debts, are one strategy a creditor can employ in order to recover debt owed to them. For most debts, the creditors are PROHIBITED from garnishing the wages of Texas’ residents if the check is issued in Texas.

Garnishment is only allowed in certain situations. If you owe money for back taxes, child support, or student loans, the government can garnish your wages at any time.
